Navdanya / Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology wins the case (Writ Petition (Civil) No. 333/2006) relating to the import of sub-standard, contaminated wheat unfit for human consumption at prohibitive prices from various countries.

This case was filed in July, 2006 after the export of wheat by MNCs were banned and future trading in wheat was banned. Minimum Support Price was increased from Rs. 750/100 kg (when the case was filed) to Rs. 850/- and lastly Rs. 1000/-. No import of wheat has taken place since 2008.

On 19.01.2009, when the matter was listed for final disposal, the Supreme Court of India instructed the Government of India “to conform the policy on health standards and prohibit dilution of health standards and if there is any failure on the part of the Government, the petitioner would be at liberty to take other appropriate steps.”
