On the 13th of January Navdanya along with other farmer associations including OFAI, Jagriti Agro Tech and others attended a government consultation chaired by the DIPP secretary with farmers and farmer groups on the introduction of FDI in the Retail sector in India.
Despite our opposition to the proposal clearly stated at the forum, the government has issued a misleading statement that farmers were in favour of FDI in retail. The Joint statement is clarification of our position on FDI retail and the proceedings of the meeting yesterday.
In addition, there are a couple of articles and papers which were also given to the DIPP representatives clearly stating our opposition to the introduction of FDI in retail.
