Raising twenty objections against the biosafety report put out by Environment Ministry on GM Mustard, environmentalist Vandana Shiva today said Independent studies, health and socio-economic factors should be taken into account before exposing 1.5 billion Indians to the "unscientific GM fraud".

A day before the deadline for public feedback on biosafety report for GM mustards ends, Shiva while pointing out key loopholes said the assessment report is filled with scientific contradictions.

The report lacks information and evidence on patents to improper and no feeding studies and blood analysis to herbicide tolerance traits while no socio-economic assessments have been carried out along with other health and biosafety tests, Shiva said in her report which raised twenty objections against the governments biosafety report.

"The IPR on GM mustard is central to the GM mustard debate and yet there is no disclosure on this. Independent feeding studies, health and socio-economic factors should be done before we expose 1.5 billion Indians to this unscientific GM fraud," she said.
