Navdanya in collaboration with Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of Uttarakhand started a series of two day trainers training programme on Biodiversity based Organic farming. These training programmes are sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology. First training was started on 29th -30th December. Till date three training programmes have been conducted and about 150 farmer trainees from 30 developmental blocks of Garhwal Mandal. Venue for the training was Biodiversity Conservation farm on Old Shimla road, Dehradun with the lighting of lamp by Dr. J.M.S. Rana, Director of Department of Biotechnology.

Two more trainings are proposed in the month of March on 22nd – 23rd and 29th and 30th march 2011.
Farmers are taught several techniques to improve the soil fertility including Ghanamrit, Jeevamrit, Panchgavya, vermicompost and seed conservation. Hands on training is also given on the techniques to improve the soil fertility.
